A native of Long Beach, California, Julius “JuJu” Johnson committed to UCLA in May 2026, choosing the Bruins over more than 20 scholarship offers from programs including Miami, Oklahoma, Michigan, Oregon, and Nebraska. What makes his ascent particularly remarkable is the timing. Johnson missed his entire junior season with a lower-body injury, then re-established himself on the national stage the following summer, turning in a dominant performance at The Opening in Dallas before showcasing his two-way ability at the Elite 11 Finals. In June 2026, 247Sports elevated him to five-star status, moving him 78 spots to No. 31 nationally and No. 2 among cornerbacks in the 2027 class. He became UCLA’s first five-star commitment since 2023 and the headliner of the program’s highest-ranked recruiting class in nearly a decade.

Johnson’s game is built on rare athleticism. Alongside football, he is a standout track athlete with personal bests of 10.34 seconds in the 100 meters, 21.08 in the 200, 48.41 in the 400, and 6-foot-2 in the high jump. As a sophomore at Long Beach Poly, he recorded 43 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, three pass breakups, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, an interception, and a sack across 10 games, while also contributing on offense with eight receptions for 177 yards and two touchdowns. Evaluators credit him with the versatility to line up outside, in the slot, or over the top, and project him as a difference-maker at the Power Four level. He enters his senior season this fall with the Jackrabbits, one of the most storied high school football programs in the country.
