Collins is from Gallatin, Tennessee, where she started playing soccer at age four and grew up competing with her twin brother in whatever sport either of them played. She played her high school soccer at Pope John Paul II Preparatory School in Hendersonville, where she set the school records for career goals (106) and goals in a season (44), and her club soccer for Tennessee Soccer Club. As a senior she was named the 2023-24 Gatorade Tennessee Girls Soccer Player of the Year, and was a 2023 United Soccer Coaches All-American and a 2022 ECNL All-American. Collins scored a hat trick in her college debut against Furman in August 2024. Her first goal came 34 seconds in, the second-fastest in program history. Days later she left to train with the U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team in Colombia and missed three Gamecock matches. She appeared in 19 matches as a freshman, starting 18, and scored 13 goals. As a sophomore in 2025 she started all 19 matches, scored 10 goals with five assists, and became the program’s all-time leader in hat tricks. In December 2025 Duke announced her signing as a transfer. She enrolled in January 2026 with two years of eligibility remaining. She is now a junior forward for the Blue Devils, wears No. 18, and is majoring in psychology. > “We built SteelPeak Sports on a simple idea: the financial side of an athlete’s life deserves the same preparation they put into their sport,” said Reza Zamani, Founder & CEO of SteelPeak Wealth. “Katie Shea set scoring records in high school, earned All-America honors in the SEC, and then chose Duke because it would push her in the classroom and on the field. We’re honored that Katie Shea has asked us to help her work through those carefully, with a long-term view.”   Collins’ most recent recognition came in September 2026. She scored once, assisted twice, and drew a penalty kick in Duke’s 5-0 win over No. 1 Stanford. That week she was named both the TopDrawerSoccer National Player of the Week and the ACC Offensive Player of the Week. The goal extended her scoring streak to five straight matches. Before the season, United Soccer Coaches named her to its Forwards to Watch list. In 2025 at South Carolina she was a United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American, a First Team All-Southeast Region selection, and First Team All-SEC. She was on the Hermann Trophy midseason watch list and tied for the SEC lead with six game-winning goals. In March 2026, TopDrawerSoccer ranked Duke’s two-player transfer class of Collins and Sam Courtwright No. 1 in the country. Her freshman season brought All-SEC Second Team, All-SEC Freshman Team, and United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region honors, plus a place on the TopDrawerSoccer Best XI Freshman First Team. She was named SEC Freshman of the Week three times, the most in a single season in South Carolina history, and SEC Offensive Player of the Week once. She has trained with the U.S. U-17, U-19, and U-20 Youth National Teams. She won a bronze medal with the U-19 team at the 2023 Pan American Games in Chile and was an alternate for the 2024 U.S. U-20 World Cup squad. Collins credits her competitive drive to growing up with a twin. “He’s my best friend and my biggest competitor,” she told the South Carolina athletics website in 2024. When Duke announced her transfer in December 2025, she said, “I chose Duke because it challenges me both academically and athletically.” She told GoDuke.com in September 2026, “Duke is the next level for me.” She admitted she was nervous about the move. “But I knew since I was not comfortable that meant it was the right decision.” Her standard for herself is effort. “I want to walk off the field feeling like I gave it my all, then I will be happy,” she said. Off the field, she has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, served as a peer mentor to students with special needs, and coached youth soccer.
